Anybody who's ever seen one of our programmes may have spotted the somewhat obscure reference to The Tuesday Group. Who are these people, and what do they do?
Unfortunately, our sets just don't build themselves, so this is where The Tuesday Group come in. The group's job starts with (carefully!) demolishing the old set. This is a painstaking process, as many parts of the old set are reused, from the chipboard that makes up our walls to the screws that hold everything together. If you take a look at the back of a finished set, you may recognise paintwork from productions from many years ago! Often, once the old set is out of the way, all the audience seating needs to be moved somewhere else - it's a rare luxury for the group when a set designer or producer decides that they want the same seating layout as the previous show! Next comes building the set. The group take on practically every part of this process, usually starting with laying the stage floor, erecting the walls, and taking it right through until the finished, painted set is ready for the audience to see it. Many of the bits and pieces that need doing around the theatre have also been carried out by The Tuesday Group. Some of the things accomplished by the group in recent years include: - The refurbishment of our bar, including building the bar shelving and counter, and reupholstering the seats
- Stained glass windows for sets
- A small replica dog-shaped flower wreath
- Plumbing for a working sink with running water
- Creation of fine art for sets (including the Antrios in Art)
Many of the group can also be found somewhere in the theatre during the week of the show, including the technical crew (stage management, lighting, sound, etc) and front of house (including the house manager, bar staff, ice cream sales). If you think you have any skills at all that you can lend, then we'd be more than happy to hear from you. You don't have to be the world's best carpenter, or a skilled painter. You don't need to have set foot backstage at theatre before. All we ask is that you have a sense of humour, and that you can work safely in our theatre. Even if you don't think the Tuesday Group is up your street, we're always looking for people to help, whether it's during the week of the show, or perhaps in wardrobe or whatever, please do let us know. The 'Contact Us' page in the menu on the left has everything you need to get in touch. |
